Self-Assessment Audits - Members' Experiences So Far

16 December 2025      Tamsin Lester, CUBO-UUK Code Support Officer

We asked some of our members to share their experience so far of conducting the newly mandatory self-assessment audit:

''The new Checklist is really thorough and clearly focused on the student experience. It can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get into it, you realise you’re already doing so much of what it asks! Don't put it off...''little by little, one travels far''. So pop the kettle on, grab a some biscuits, and take it one question at a time, you’ll soon see it’s a great way to spot what’s working well and where you can grow.''

''Since the launch of the new Code, we have worked collaboratively across the University to raise awareness among students and staff of its significance and of our individual responsibilities.

Our new Head of Compliance and Chief Compliance Officer have agreed to lead the annual self-assessment audit. We have already met to review the requirements and identify which teams are responsible for providing the necessary information. The checklist has proven to be the most effective tool, as it outlines each requirement and helps ensure that no essential elements are overlooked. We are also using a shared drive so that all data is stored in one accessible location. We aim to complete the assessment by the end of February 2026.''

''Ulster has successfully navigated the self-assessment audit with the support of colleagues within The Code itself. They have provided guidance, advice and support. We have used the self-assessment method which has worked very well as we have an integrated approach across the university verifying the evidence from colleagues in Estates and Finance. This has been an intense process which we have navigated successfully with collaborative support internally and externally.''
