Fiona Taylor, UUK/GuildHE Code Support Officer
I'm pleased to share a brief review of our achievements since setting The Code’s strategic objectives three years ago. The Code supports universities, further education providers, and students by ensuring high standards in student accommodation. We launched several ambitious projects, detailed in our Code Annual Reports on The Code's website. For this update, I'll highlight the two most critical initiatives.
The first is the review of The Code itself. With input from you and other stakeholders, we have kept The Code up to date with legislative changes and adopted a more holistic approach to student residential life. The second is the introduction of a new management system designed to improve back office operations and offer a system that facilitates audits and the maintenance of institutional data for members. The delivery of both these projects would not have been possible without the professional support from all of The Code Team and without our members input. I have to thank all of you who made such valuable contributions to the development of the new Code and to those institutions that stepped up to offer their valuable time to test the new code management system.
The Governance Board has approved a new three-year strategic plan, with a focus on introducing The Code to members’ internal stakeholders and students. Other initiatives include implementing an online learning platform for the new Code and further developing the management system.
Participation in Roundtable events, practitioners conference, and the online Code Discussion Board will continue to support the implementation of The Code throughout the upcoming year. Your ongoing engagement is vital going forward so we can help you maintain the delivery our services for your institution and your students.
